We had the chance to catch up with Wally Lopez to discuss his new track "Let’s Get Hot" and more.
Hi Wally Lopez! How did your collaboration with the record label based in Istanbul, Houseyounite. Can you share the story behind how this partnership unfolded and what drew you to this project?
I have a great friendship with Nodus and I’m a big fan of his way to work. We had him playing with us in Madrid and talked about the option to make them a song and here we go.
We had the privilege of listening to "Let’s Get Hot" before its release. Considering your strong underground roots, would you say this track represents a departure from your usual style, or is it still deeply tied to your inner creative world? What inspired this particular piece?
I never knew what my style is (which sometimes is so good and sometimes a problem) but I never stick in a style… But this track is me… 100% or at least one of my me [laughs].
You’ve been visiting Istanbul more frequently in recent years, and we’re excited about the possibility of more collaborations in the future. How does the energy of Istanbul and the warmth of Turkish people influence your artistry?
I love Istanbul so much, energy is perfect for my kind of music… I love groove, I do love make the people dance and create the energy for a real party… And Turkish people have that energy too!
As a pioneer in the house and tech house scenes, how do you perceive the evolution of electronic music today? Are there any trends or innovations that particularly excite or inspire you?
I’m not very into any TikTok DJs and I don’t care too much about them but so many new (and old) people inspire me everything with their talent and passion… I see it everyday with my movement TRUST WALLY where I’m being the speaker of many of them.
Beyond your music, what passions or hobbies play a role in fuelling your creativity and keeping you inspired? Are there any surprising influences that impact your sound?
My life, being a dad and a husband… For example, my son introduced me to a “new style” that they love and I’m using some “drums” from that style to my new music [laughs] I won’t tell you the name but thanks God is not reggaeton.
With your wealth of experience, what key advice would you give to young DJs and producers trying to make their mark in today’s competitive music scene?
Be respectful with the past, don’t follow the trends, be yourself, be passionate and never give up with a NO as it is the step before the YES.
When people look back at your career years from now, what do you hope will be your lasting legacy in the world of electronic music?
My legacy? I just want to demonstrate that if you follow what I just said, you will get your dreams come true sooner or later…
