AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah showcase female talent in new compilation from Apranik Records
‘Intended Consequence’, the 10-track VA compilation is out now
AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah have curated another VA compilation album, titled ‘Intended Consequence’, featuring 10 original electronic tracks from female Iranian artists.
Following in the wake of Apranik Records' initial compilation 'Woman, Life, Freedom', a sonic reaction to the female-led protests in Iran post the tragic pass of Mahsa Zhina Amini, 'Intended Consequence' carries on this legacy. The album features contributions from label pioneers AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah and notable Iranian producers and sound artists such as Rojin Sharafi, Aida Shirazi and Ava Rasti, among others. Woven around the narrative of Iranian women's relentless pursuit of liberation, this release portrays a potent display of resilience and tenacity against a backdrop of both tranquility and turmoil.
From AZADI.mp3’s offbeat, fractured club beats on 'Empty Platform', the percussive jungle influences of Abji_hypersun's 'Resist The God Trick', to Nesa Azadikhah’s soothing breakbeats on 'Perpetual' and the hypnotic loopwork on AIDA’s 'Ode To Expectations', this is a genre-spanning and unapologetically unique medley from some of today's most skillful female powerhouses in the electronic music arena.
Additional highlights include Rojin Sharafi's 'dbkkk' - a rhythmically complex electro track interlaced with a stark and enchanting rawness, and the rhythm-free exploration of Farzané’s 'Quorl', a highly immersive, shape-shifting piece pulsating with both biological and machine-like lifeforms, crafting an eerily unforgettable ambience.
Intended Consequence encapsulates the results that stem from our resolute decisions to act or become, regardless of the perils ahead. These anticipated outcomes, ever-present and vibrant, test our courage and fortitude. 'Intended Consequence' is a musical tribute to the continuous struggle and choice Iranian women make daily in their quest for freedom.
Despite the inherent dangers, Iranian women make bold choices; they step outside, perform daily tasks, and escort their children to school, defying the compulsory hijab rule. Their resilience manifests in the rejection of imposed dress codes, behaviours and lifestyles that contradict their beliefs – a resistance powerfully echoed in 'Intended Consequence'.
