Disco Tunez launches its new summer season with focus on Tunisia’s disco-era heritage

Disco Tunez is set to launch its 2026 summer season in Tunisia with a programme that revisits the country’s disco-era heritage.

Developed by Tunez Magazine and founded by Hedy Ben Hmida, the event series draws on musical references from Tunisia’s 1970s and 1980s nightlife, positioning archival sounds within a present-day setting. The concept centres on reintroducing vintage disco, funk, soul and reggae alongside Tunisian classics, with selections that move between preservation and reinterpretation.

Rather than leaning on overt retro styling, Disco Tunez focuses on musical continuity. Sets are structured to connect local recordings with international material, allowing different eras and geographies to intersect on the dancefloor. The approach favours curation over revivalism, with an emphasis on pacing, transitions and context.

The opening event on 16 May features performances from Aquanima, saHHar, Sameur Ha and Meriem S, setting the tone for a season that blends archival material with contemporary sounds.

The 2026 season, framed as “A portal to a neverending summer”, opens on 16 May at Aïna Gammarth, marking the first in a series of events planned across coastal venues including Gammarth and Sousse. The programme references the atmosphere of mid-to-late 20th century Tunisian summers, when hotels, clubs and open-air spaces shaped a distinct Mediterranean nightlife identity.

This year’s edition also introduces an international collaboration with saHHara, a Berlin-based collective working across the Maghreb and wider SWANA diaspora. Known for its hybrid programming that connects traditional influences with contemporary electronic music, saHHara brings a diasporic perspective to the project, linking scenes in Tunis and Berlin through shared cultural references.

Additional curatorial input comes from The Calling, a Paris-based platform focused on global club culture. Its founder, Track Advisor, has contributed to the artistic direction of the upcoming season, shaping both the musical framework and overall experience.
