Jordan’s first vinyl pressing plant to open in Amman in 2027
MAKBAS aims to make vinyl manufacturing more accessible to artists and labels across the MENA region
Jordan is set to get its first-ever vinyl pressing plant in 2027, with independent label Makbas Records preparing to launch MAKBAS in Amman early next year.
Operating from a warehouse in the Jordanian capital, MAKBAS will offer black and coloured vinyl pressing alongside sleeve design, distribution and merchandise services. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce around 1,000 records per day, with plans to expand its capacity further.
The project is being led by Makbas Records founders Aseel Barghuthi and Saeed Abu-Jaber, who developed the plant in response to rising global shipping costs and the limited availability of regionally pressed vinyl for artists and listeners across MENA and beyond.
Speaking to Resident Advisor, Barghuthi said: “Younger generations are increasingly turning to physical format music as part of their musical and listening experiences. Today, music from the region gets pressed on vinyl continents away and seldom makes its way back to regional fanbases. MAKBAS is here to help change that.”
She added: “Our number one priority is to press the highest quality records for our client base, but MAKBAS at its essence aspires to be an industry partner. A platform to empower and discover artists and labels, to help them make the most of their creations, their IP, and share it with their audiences wherever they may be.”
The launch is intended to give artists and labels in the region access to a more local manufacturing and distribution option, while reducing some of the logistical costs associated with pressing records overseas.
