HBB lands on Pipe & Pochet with new EP, ‘Challenge Everything’
The two-track EP emerged from a summer of studio experimentation in Los Angeles
Los Angeles-based DJ and producer HBB (Usama Douglah) has released 'Challenge Everything', a two-track EP that marks his debut on Pipe & Pochet.
The EP was created during a summer of studio experimentation in Los Angeles and reflects a focus on groove, atmosphere and restraint. Across both tracks, the artist combines acoustic percussion, warm basslines and layered synthesis to create a sound that feels grounded while remaining club-oriented. The project is out via Pipe & Pochet, the Los Angeles-based imprint founded by Ali Farahani and Patrik Khach.
The title track, 'Challenge Everything', opens the release with a steady, organic rhythm built around earthy percussion and spoken-word vocal elements, setting a reflective yet forward-moving tone. The second cut, 'Get High', leans into a more uplifting register, pairing melodic progressions with late-night textures aimed at the dance floor. Together, the two tracks present a concise statement of HBB’s current direction, underlining his interest in evolution, musical identity and functional club energy.
HBB’s music has been shaped by a life lived across multiple regions. Born in Iraq, raised in Africa and now based in Los Angeles, he draws on a broad cultural background that informs his rhythmic and textural approach. His artist name is derived from the Arabic word habibi, meaning “my love”, a reference to the sense of openness and connection that runs through his productions. Prior to this release, he has appeared on labels including Café de Anatolia, Among Friends Records and AFRODITE, building a catalogue that bridges organic percussion with contemporary electronic structures.
