Jool and Jorg launch Unexpected Context with debut EP
The three-track release moves across house, techno, electro and broken rhythms while keeping its sound deliberately unpredictable
Lebanon-based artists Jool and Jorg have joined forces under a new alias, Unexpected Context.
The debut ‘Controlled Disorder’ EP, released on Desimana on September 21, brings together house, techno, electro and broken rhythms across four tracks. Rather than presenting a fixed sound, Unexpected Context looks set to make unpredictability part of the formula.
Jool, the alias of Julian Naman, has developed a sound that moves between jazz, ambient, progressive rock, techno and house, while his work as a DJ and percussionist has made him a familiar presence across Beirut’s underground scene. Jorg, meanwhile, has been digging through house, breakbeat and techno since the 1990s, with a long-running connection to Beirut and Cairo and a reputation for sets that move freely across eras and styles. Their new project puts that shared appetite for experimentation at the centre, refusing to settle into a single club genre.
The EP brings together ‘Silent Chaos’, featuring lyricist and vocalist Kira, ‘Explooosive’ and ‘Non Common House’. The three-track release lands on vinyl on August 31. Pre-order here.
