KICA unveils new minimal tech single, ‘2 AM’
The Dubai artist channels late-night inspiration and his electronic icons into his latest release
KICA, Vladan Krstic’s DJ/producer alter ego, has released his latest single "2 AM”, available on his own KICA Records.
A former professional athlete and curator of extreme sports events, the artist has a background that includes booking renowned DJs such as Ricardo Villalobos, Rolando and The Martinez Brothers—artists who ultimately inspired him to start DJing. Since relocating to Dubai in 2015, he has quickly established a reputation for his distinctive, energetic sound.
By 2020, Krstic had become one of the most sought-after DJs in the UAE, with releases on Baikonur Recordings. His debut single, "Mini”, reached the 4th spot on Beatport, followed by a series of successful tracks including "Street Dance," "Dor E Dor" and "Caje Caje”.
KICA spent countless hours in the studio, striving to meet his own rigorous standards. It was during the quiet early morning hours that he rediscovered an unreleased track, "Better Life," which led to the creation of the bassline melody that would become "2 AM." This track, born from a moment of inspiration, was completed before dawn.
Influenced by the late-night creative process and the sounds of electronic music icons like Ricardo Villalobos, The Martinez Brothers, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin, "2 AM" is a minimal tech track that captures the essence of raw, introspective energy. It opens with a driving beat and a relentless bassline, with layers of glitchy synths, chopped vocal samples and atmospheric pads adding depth to this minimal yet compelling production.
KICA explains: "2 AM is more than just a track, it's a moment captured in time. Whilst playing 'Better Life', I felt a sudden surge of creativity. As I played the baseline, the first four notes unveiled a completely new song. Before I knew it, I was immersed in creating this track. It all came together at 2 AM."
