Lizwi and Tommy Veanud deliver spiritually rooted Afro house single, ‘UNqamlezo’
The pair's new collaboration reflects themes of faith, protection and presence, urging listeners not to lose sight of divine power, grace and love during both difficult and hopeful moments
Lizwi and Tommy Veanud have joined forces on new single ‘UNqamlezo’, an Afro House release shaped around spiritual themes.
Built on tribal rhythms, steady grooves and layered melodic elements, ‘UNqamlezo’ blends Afro House structures with references to African musical traditions. At the centre of the track stands Lizwi’s vocal performance in IsiZulu, with the title translating to “The Cross”. According to the artists, the single carries themes of faith, protection and spiritual presence, while its arrangement moves between reflective passages and dancefloor-focused moments.
Speaking about the release, Lizwi said:
“The story behind ‘UNqamlezo’, ‘The Cross’, is a quiet reminder of how easily we forget the creator, God. As I sing the words, ‘Nize nize ningamlibali’, do not ever forget who he was, and who he still is. Even on the days when the weight of life bends your spirit, when faith feels distant and fragile, do not let your heart lose him.
“For we have begun to live as though life is ours to grant, moving through it carelessly, as if we are doing existence a favour. In the noise and the rush, we have forgotten who we are, and in doing so, we have slowly forgotten him, who has always been with us.”
Lizwi has become a recognised name within Afro House through collaborations with artists including Da Capo, alongside releases supported by figures such as Black Coffee. Her catalogue spans labels including Armada Music, MoBlack Records and Get Physical Music.
