Metttani unveils collaborative EP ‘Minuit Treize’ with KOPY
The four-track release marks the Tunisian artist’s first standalone project since the 2023 EP ‘Tawātem’
Metttani has unveiled a new standalone release, joining forces with Japanese electronic artist KOPY for the collaborative EP ‘Minuit Treize’.
Released via Casablanca-based label raghoul, the four-track project marks the imprint’s 10th release and continues its focus on bass-rooted musical cultures, a direction it has explored since its launch in 2021.
‘Minuit Treize’ brings together the distinct approaches of both artists through a process centred on real-time synthesis and live sonic manipulation. Across four tracks — ‘Gambaru Gambaru’, ‘Bonobo’, ‘Iori’ and the title cut — the EP explores abrasive textures, rhythmic experimentation and club-focused structures shaped through spontaneous interaction and performance-led production.
KOPY is the solo electronic project of Japanese musician Yuko Kureyama, who emerged from Osaka’s underground music scene before relocating to Tokyo. After more than a decade as guitarist in the all-female band water fai, she launched KOPY in 2015, developing a practice built around rhythm machines, samplers and minimal electronic setups.
Metttani, the musical alias of Amine Metani, is the founder of the Arabstazy collective and Shouka label. Drawing from influences ranging from 1990s big beat and death metal to breakcore, IDM and non-tempered traditional music, his work combines electronic production with elements of acoustic performance and ritual-based musical traditions.
The collaborative EP follows on from Metttani’s five-track 2023 release ‘Tawātem’, and his contribution to the VA compilation ‘Wings Over Wires’ last year, with proceeds supporting a collective of teachers working to keep music alive for children in Gaza.
