New residency project Maklaa connects contemporary scenes of Tunisia and Italy
Led by the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis, Maklaa welcomes Laura Agnusdei, Rami Harrabi and Aymen Mbarki for its opening event on October 10
The Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis has announced Maklaa, a new international residency project that fosters dialogue and cultural collaboration between two Mediterranean countries, Tunisia and Italy.
Launching as part of the 22nd Giornata del Contemporaneo and running from October 10 to 23, the initiative has been conceived as a shared space for artistic research and experimentation, connecting artists from both sides of the Mediterranean and encouraging exchanges between different creative practices and perspectives.
For its inaugural edition, Maklaa will bring together Italian saxophonist and electroacoustic composer Laura Agnusdei and Tunisian musician Rami Harrabi, also known as Virus2020. The two artists will share their respective approaches before working together on an original collaborative piece during the residency.
The project will begin on October 10 at 7 PM at the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis, with an opening event combining music and visual art. An exhibition of drawings by Tunisian artist Aymen Mbarki will accompany performances by Rami Harrabi (Virus2020) and the Laura Agnusdei Quartet, establishing a dialogue between the evening's visual and sonic elements.
The launch will mark the first public stage of a wider programme that will continue with an artist residency at Dar Meso, located in the heart of Tunis' Medina. There, Agnusdei and Harrabi will develop a new work together, using the residency as a setting for exchange, research and experimentation across their respective practices.
Those interested can register by emailing [email protected] and attend the event by bringing an ID.
