New software streamlines system audio recording via single keyboard shortcut
The cross-platform tool enables producers to record internal computer audio instantly without configuring virtual audio devices
A new cross-platform tool called AudioRoute aims to simplify one of music production's most persistent workflow frustrations by enabling producers to capture internal computer audio with a single keyboard shortcut. Designed for both macOS and Windows, the software eliminates the need for the complex virtual audio routing setups that have long been associated with recording system audio.
For years, producers looking to sample sounds from streaming platforms, web browsers or other desktop applications have relied on utilities such as BlackHole and Soundflower, often requiring manual configuration of virtual devices and audio settings before recording could begin. AudioRoute takes a different approach by offering a streamlined workflow that starts recording the system's audio mix instantly via a custom keyboard shortcut before saving the result directly as a WAV file.
The software provides three recording methods tailored to different production environments. Alongside its standalone system-wide recorder, AudioRoute is available as a VST3 and AU plug-in that routes internal audio directly into compatible digital audio workstations, including Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and FL Studio. The developers say the plug-in delivers sample-accurate, low-latency recording while automatically preventing feedback by excluding the DAW's own output from the capture.
A third mode exposes AudioRoute as a virtual audio input, allowing it to be selected as an input source in applications such as OBS, Zoom, Discord and Voice Memos. Rather than continuously running in the background, the software activates only when recording is initiated before returning to an idle state once the capture has finished.
AudioRoute is available under a perpetual licence priced at €29, which includes lifetime updates and a 14-day free trial. Check it out here.
