Omary explores the sounds of his upbringing on new album ‘Tourat’

Moroccan DJ and producer Omary has released his 12-track album, ‘Tourat’.

Taking its name from the Arabic word for ‘heritage’, the album draws on the sounds, instruments and voices that have shaped Omary since childhood. Each track explores a different musical influence, combining traditional arrangements with percussion-led electronic rhythms.

The project features contributions from a range of artists, including Khalid Elhamri, DJ Medi, Nourani, Yasser Radif, Iris Bloom, Amine’O, Aziz Ozouss, Dongoal, Souhail Artwork, Badr Sabry, Salah Fafah and Lotfi E. Together, the collaborators bring elements of Moroccan and Arabic musical traditions into the album, alongside influences from Amazigh music and Turkiye.

Among the album’s more personal moments is ‘Diwane’, featuring vocals by Omary’s father, Abdo, accompanied by violinist Salah Fafah. The track addresses family heritage and the passing of musical traditions between generations.

The album artwork was created in collaboration with Moroccan artist Ed Oner.

‘Tourat’ is out via Omary's own imprint Ostowana Records. Listen to it below.
