Swedish manufacturer Teenage Engineering has just revealed details of new product the PO-80 Record Factory, that allows you to create your own 5” records and play them back with lo-fi sound.

The compact and portable new device cuts records and engraves them with a "lo-fi sound," — alongside a vinyl mastering tool that allows you to ensure sound quality before creating your records.

“To get the optimum sound quality for your recordings, use our vinyl mastering tool to pre-process your audio before cutting,” reads Teenage Engineering’s website.

“Created for use with the PO-80 record factory, it applies the desired equalizer curve to your music and makes it easier to achieve good lo-fi sound quality on your custom 5" cuts.”

The entirely USB-powered device was made in collaboration with Japanese musician and designer Yuri Suzuki. The portable device quickly sold out on the Teenage Engineering website after going up for sale at £149 last week.

“Engrave and playback 5" discs with ultra-analog lo-fi sound — simply plug in any audio device to the 3.5 mm audio input and cut your own record in an instant. Yep, it’s really that simple,” the description adds.

The device also allows you to “give your favourite 7" records new life”, or simply listen to them back on the record player through a built-in speaker. You can also plug in a speaker using the 3.5mm audio output.

The PO-80 Record Factory comes with everything needed to build your own record, from needles to disks. On top of that, the machine also works with Teenage Engineering’s ‘pocket operator’ device.

“PO-80 is the next addition to the pocket operator family. Compose a song on any pocket operator, plug it in to PO-80, and instantly cut your song onto your very own vinyl record.”
