Akai releases new dub siren-inspired "Ring The Alarm" plugin

Japanese hardware manufacturer Akai has launched a new synth plugin, designed to emulate dub and dancehall-esque sirens.

Ring The Alarm was created in collaboration with AIR Music Tech, and alongside giving users the ability to create customisable sirens, includes the option to play with their echo, reverb and feedback controls.

On top of this, the LFO controls can be easily changed to include a siren's speed and the LFO’s multiple wave shape.

In a description of Ring The Alarm, Akai says it hopes the plugin can help recreate the “pulsating beats of a Kingston dancehall, where the rhythmic sound of a dub siren blends seamlessly with reggae and ska melodies.”

The manufacturer hopes the plugin will help "resurrect" the iconic sounds as users apply the sirens to their creations alongside synth rises and mashed-up effects.

The Ring The Alarm is available now at £24.99 via Akai’s MPC store here.

The plugin runs as a VST2, VST3 and AU plugin on Mac and Windows, and also works on MPC hardware.

Akai have shared a full tutorial which you can watch below.
