Bedouin, MoBlack and Feki Station breathe new life into Salif Keita’s ‘Mandjou’
Salif Keita's 1978 classic ‘Mandjou’ was later re-recorded for his acclaimed 1995 album ‘Folon’
Bedouin (pictured), MoBlack and Feki Station have delivered a new interpretation of Salif Keita's classic track, ‘Mandjou’.
Originally released in 1978 as the title track of Salif Keita's album with ‘Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux’, ‘Mandjou’ later reached a wider international audience through a re-recorded version on Keita's 1995 album ‘Folon’.
The release follows the global success of MoBlack's official rework of Salif Keita's ‘Yamore’, which earned Diamond certification in France and five-times Diamond certification worldwide. While that release paired MoBlack with Salif Keita, ‘Mandjou’ expands the collaboration to include Bedouin and Feki Station.
Discussing how the project came together, MoBlack said: "'Mandjou' began as a spark in 2024 and naturally evolved over the following two years into a collaboration with Bedouin, Salif Keita, and Feki Station. It was one of those records that took time to find its true identity, with each of us adding something meaningful along the way.
Blending organic instrumentation with electronic textures, the track is built around Salif Keita’s timeless voice and a groove that grows naturally without forcing the moment. For me, 'Mandjou' is about patience, connection, and letting music speak for itself coming alive when shared together on the dancefloor."
When unveiling the release on social media, Bedouin described 'Mandjou' as one of their most requested IDs.
Built around Salif Keita’s unmistakable vocals, ‘Mandjou’ pairs deep percussion, organic instrumentation and richly melodic arrangements, preserving the emotional weight of the original while translating it for contemporary dancefloors.
