Caprices Morocco, which was scheduled to run from May 9 to 11 in Marrakech, has been cancelled after local authorities suspended all similar events in the city. The decision comes in the wake of a serious security incident at another electronic music festival, Umbramur, a joint project by Umbra and Amur, held at Palais Anthea on May 3.

“Following a major security incident at another electronic music event in Marrakech last weekend, the local authorities have decided to cancel all similar events until further notice, including ours,” the Caprices Morocco team stated in a public update shared via social media.

Despite outlining their extensive preparations, the organisers clarified that the decision was out of their hands: “Despite our 20+ years of experience, the expertise of our local partner, and a rigorous security plan, this decision was imposed on us by the authorities and is entirely beyond our control.”

A new date for the festival is under discussion and will be announced soon. In the meantime, ticket holders are being contacted directly by ticketing platforms Aylink and Weezevent to discuss next steps.

“Our team is actively working on a suitable alternative,” the statement continued. “Thank you for your understanding, loyalty, and continued trust.”

Caprices Morocco 2025 was set to feature an impressive lineup of international DJs, including Loco Dice, Dixon, Gordo, Agoria, Awen, Arapu and RPR Soundsystem. The festival, a North African offshoot of the long-standing Swiss brand Caprices, had positioned itself as a major new player on the regional festival calendar.

Footage from Umbramur, held at Palais Anthea on 3 May, sparked backlash last week after a joint social media post by local communities Techno Pulse Morocco, Moroccan Techno Ravers and Rave Pulse circulated widely online. The post featured scenes of confrontations between security staff and attendees, alongside a statement: “We came for music, unity, and joy — instead we got violence, fear and chaos. Security beat people, released dogs on them, and let ppl enter like animals. This wasn’t a festival. It was humiliation.”
