Chartmetric introduces predictive artist discovery tool analysing data from over 10 million artists
The platform integrates signals from millions of artists to reshape talent discovery processes
Music analytics platform Chartmetric has unveiled a new tool designed to streamline the identification of emerging talent through advanced data analysis.
Released early this month, the innovative system evaluates “signals” across the careers of more than 10 million artists to gauge their potential for future success. These signals are used to assign daily scores ranging from 1 to 10, providing a quantifiable measure of performance. The feature is integrated into existing premium subscriptions for Chartmetric users.
In unveiling the tool, Chartmetric highlighted the evolving challenges faced by traditional methods of talent scouting in today’s expansive music landscape.
“Data has always been an essential component of the gut instinct that A&Rs rely on, although it was never thought of as data in the past, but rather as knowledge. An encyclopedic knowledge of the marketplace and current trends enabled successful A&Rs and bookers to make better decisions on gut instinct,” explained Chaz Jenkins, CCO at Chartmetric.
“But with far more artists releasing music globally today than at any point in the past, and so many more people consuming so much more music, it is almost impossible for anyone to have sufficient awareness of the marketplace,” Jenkins added.
While the final version of the tool took 18 months to complete, Jenkins revealed that the concept has been in development for eight years, underscoring the company’s commitment to innovating talent discovery processes.
Akash Mukerjee, VP of Product Management at Chartmetric, also shed light on the analytical depth of the platform. “We’re now able to analyze the marketplace over the past decade and utilise data to learn and understand how successful artists develop and how consumers engage with them across multiple services,” he said.
He further noted: “There is no single metric that can predict success. Each of the signals we identified integrates multiple data points from many services. By handling the heavy analytical work behind the scenes, our distinct signals can be used to identify emerging talent far earlier than was ever possible before.”
Chartmetric’s latest innovation signals a shift in how the music industry approaches talent discovery, blending data-driven insights with the human expertise that has long defined A&R practices.
