New free app allows users to detect smart glasses in clubs and festivals

A new free app has been launched to help users detect people wearing smart glasses nearby, amid growing concerns over the use of the devices in nightlife settings, including clubs and festivals.
Named in reference to Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, ZuckOff uses Bluetooth technology to identify nearby Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Snap Spectacles devices, providing users with information about the type of smart glasses detected and their approximate distance from the user's location.
Developed by Polish software developer Pawel Szydlowski, ZuckOff is available to download for free on both Google Play and Apple's App Store, and has already been downloaded thousands of times.
The app also offers a paid subscription option, allowing users to receive notifications directly on their phones even when the app is not running.
Speaking to Business Insider, Szydlowski said, "We, as a society, have the right to at least know that someone is recording," explaining that the app identifies smart glasses by analysing information transmitted by the devices, including UUIDs and manufacturer identifiers.
"If the unique identifier matches, and also if the manufacturer identifier matches, then we have an ultimate combo there," he added.
