RSlane reimagines Hamid Baroudi’s classic ‘Caravan to Baghdad’
TC80 and dOP contribute remixes to RSlane’s latest EP
RSlane’s latest EP, ‘Caravan to Baghdad’, stands out as one of the most notable releases of the year.
The release pays homage to Hamid Baroudi’s influential 1990 song, aiming to support and celebrate the enduring culture and strength of the Iraqi people, who have persevered through decades of hardship. By reimagining the original track, RSlane highlights the ongoing relevance of Baroudi’s message, honouring the resilience and hope.
The accompanying music video follows a captivating narrative, illustrating a journey of liberation and self-discovery. It portrays a woman escaping the constraints of the city to find freedom in the open desert, symbolising the pursuit of inner peace and the breaking away from societal expectations. With sweeping shots of the vast landscape, the visual captures the essence of solitude, allowing her to reconnect with nature as she dances under the wide sky.
Alongside RSlane’s rendition, the release features two remixes by electronic artists TC80 and dOP, offering a fresh take on the track with their distinctive styles.
The artist’s roots trace back to his early days as a professional DMC Scratch DJ in 1999, inspired by the hip-hop scene of the late ‘90s. His subsequent shift to house and techno marked the beginning of a stylistic evolution, drawing on influences like Laurent Garnier, Derrick May and Chemical Brothers. RSlane’s work is characterised by complex rhythms, subtle melodies and a refined sense of mood, establishing him as a versatile producer.
The ‘Caravan to Baghdad’ EP is available through the artist’s own label Duck it Records. Watch the official music video of the original cut below, check out the full EP here.
